We depend upon iron both on a micro-scale (within the human body itself), on a societal scale, and a macro-scale (the core of the earth and the core of the dying stars). The map is a literal representation of local. A specific place and time, now long out of date – showing you a place which no longer physically exists, now only an impression of place shaped by memory and experience. The reinvention of the map as a handmade paper yarn allows this local memory to gain a new life as a non-local substance.
